Cruises, Cosmos & Sparkly Things :-)

Since I started my business in 2007, it’s been a rare occasion that I have been able to escape for a few days of vacation.  My BFF Jenny lives in Seattle and designs jewelry (watch Zales for some of her new stuff coming soon).  Last year, we decided we both needed a bit of R & R, and it had been far too long since we had seen each other in person!  So we left Charleston on a 5 day cruise headed for the Bahamas last week.We were soooo ready for this adventure…and were not disappointed.Ahhhhh.  Sunshine, beautiful blue water, no phones ringing, a massage, girly talk and a few Carnival Cosmo’s made this trip exactly what we needed.  It was near perfect.So.  We get back and are ready to head out for a nice dinner with my boyfriend Walt, and much to my surprise right before dinner he gives me this….......and in case you haven’t heard yet, I said YES!

"BROOKE CHRISTL -- I CHALLENGE YOU" !

I recently spent a week in Chicago at a workshop learning some new techniques from Jerry Ghionis, one of the top 10 photographers in the world.  It was a privilege to learn from Jerry…and learn I did.  We went over so many things in 5 days that I was near short circuiting from information overload – LOL.  I am excited and ready to take my photography to the next level….but it will have to be done over time.  I will have to break the comfortable flow I have and exchange it for pushing myself beyond my comfort level.  It will take practice, practice, practice, to learn to see things in a different way, move things in a different way, and find that perfect sweet spot in the light each and every time.Jerry was correct when he said “ A pose without emotion is still just a pose”. I want to really concentrate on improving the emotion captured in the images I take.  I want it to ooze from each image, so anyone looking at them can feel the love I see between two people immediately.  Sometimes….this is not an easy task.  With many destination weddings here in Myrtle Beach, I don’t always get the opportunity to know and understand a couple as well as I would like to.  I have to strive to find a way to make that happen.  If I can understand better where they are coming from, then I can better recognize that special moment, the glance, the tiny knowing smile that two people in love share, and capture it.So.  I would love to tell you that these images were all my creation, my posing, my lighting…but I cannot tell a lie :-)  The truth is, many of these images were taken right over Jerry’s shoulder as HE was posing, lighting and maneuvering his subject to the perfect spot.  He is a master!None of these pictures have been retouched or altered in any way.

Thanks For Stopping - REALLY!

Earlier this month I was able to attend the WPPI (Wedding Professional Photographers International) Trade Show and Convention. My assistant and I were able to take some classes from some of the greatest and most influential photographers in the world!  We both left inspired, with wonderful ideas and beautiful images swimming in our heads…. ready to take greater images, offer more products, provide better customer service and bring Brooke Christl Photography to the next level.  So stay tuned.  Some exciting things will be happening this year.It was very apparent that our blog was in MUCH need of attention, and that we actually had to commit to post to it.  OK.  I know that our new blog is not like some of the totally stellar ones we saw earlier this month and drooled over.  All I can say is BABY STEPS. It’s better than our old one.  I’m still struggling to understand how everything works and what I am suppose to do!  I keep telling myself “I’m strong enough, I’m smart enough, and I can figure this out”.  Mostly, without a lot of conviction.  Clearly, my talent does not extend to the world of CSS, pingbacks, sticky-posts or the 100 other yet unfamiliar terms. So in the meantime….. if you have any comments, complaints or ideas on how to make this blog work better — PLEEEZE do me a favor.  LET ME KNOW!!Soon, I’ll be adding a few of my favorite things from last year, and of course LOTS of stuff in the months to come.  We have 12 weddings in April and May, so lots of beautiful wedding images coming soon!As you browse through our pages, keep in mind that we LOVE comments, so please be sure to leave one.
